Silkie thread!

Wonder why, with 3 different options to stay dry, the Silkies stayed out in the rain. This is the first time they have experienced rain.

So I have a 7 month old partridge silkie, Tiger, that I posted on the what am I boy or girl thread .... I got all girl replies a few months ago .... Well the other day this Silke made a meek crow sound... I couldn't believe it so I took new pictures and posted again .... I got all girl replies until one silkie breeder said SCREAMS BOY .... I am starting to believe its a he but I thought I would ask all of you silkie experts as this was to finally be my 1st hen!

This silkie is a loner bird, very shy, walks low ... doesn't strut around like a boy... does not try to get with the younger girl silkies as the younger silkie boys does etc etc ..... This bird did go toe to toe with my Alpha hen from the other coop yesterday which sadly has me thinking boy...... I am not very experienced with Silkies and all of my other birds are younger, so any tips and comments would be greatly appreciated!

I have a mixed breed hen that lays eggs identical in every way to a silkie egg. Imagine my surprise when I hatched a 'silkie' that was really an EE

Chickens need to leave a stamp telling me which egg belongs to which chicken.

Thanks!! Thats what I've thought until the crowing episode. She acts like a girl.... How do you guys know for sure??? I was advised to feel between her pelvic bones and they are still very close together.... As I have never had a laying silkie hen how far apart will the space get??? and how far should the distance between the keel and the pelvic bone be???

Is it normal for a non Alpha hen to make crowing sounds??? Seems strange to me ....

The dog scared the heck out of her. I would deffently not let the dog do that he broke the skin and things would have been much worse had you not been there.

my dogs would ate it
She's fine, my dog didn't break the skin. she has never done that before, she is usually very gentle with the chickens. But the chicken was making a bunch of racket and I think my dog thought she wanted to play. That is how my dog plays

she just doesn't get it. She does the same thing to my cats.... just puts her mouth on their neck, doesn't bite down but gets them all slobbery.

Who knows why they go out in the rain. My silkies get soaked every time it rains. lol Plenty of shelter out there, but noooo! They want to get wet.
