Congratulations on the chicky and yes, you'll have lots more soon! You can't just have ONE silkie.

Just got these three gals yesterday. They are just adorable. No names yet...trying to figure out their personalities. Was told they were around 6-8 weeks old.

The one on the right reminds me of Beaker on the Muppets.

Had 4 Australorp eggs, 6 silkie eggs, and 4 leghorns start hatching tonight. These are our first ever silkies and watching the first 5 hatch was a trip! they looked like sewing machines zipping around their shells, and then...boom..they literally kicked off their shells. I have watched a lot of eggs hatch, but have never seen a shell bottom fly across the incubator! I am still waiting on the rest to zip out, and the leghorns are taking the longest to pip around. One question though...how many toes are silkies supposed to have?

Silkie piles are so warm!! :)

So, I asked in another forum about egg laying but no one responded and I'm hoping to gain some wisdom from all you silkie lovers.
I have one sweet sweet black silkie that just started laying a few weeks ago. Along with a barred rock and an australorp. Yesterday I got 5 eggs from these 3 hens!! Isn't that odd? Or normal??? I had 4 the other day too...
