Silkie thread!

I know these aren't silkies but, since they are from the bantam family and some of you have other breeds of chickens I wondered if any of you knew what they are. My three mystery chicks have gotten a little bigger and I wondered if anyone can ID them now. Thanks. Cindy

I don't know

Morning update was good. A couple of roosters are driving my chicken sitters into craziness.

awww.. so close! you're alsmot there now! you can do it!

Wonderful! Thank you so much for asking! And how are Your chickens today???

I'm treating an itty bitty one for wry neck (she's doing great!). When I was finished messing with her for the evening I put her back in the brooder with her buddies. She sat off a little to the side of them and starting peeping so pitifully...until one of the others reached their wing out to pull her closer to the "pile"...I almost cried, it was so sweet! These little miracles never cease to amaze me...

They're doing good. We started painting the main/big coop and the silly LF chickens just kept wanting to test out the paint drips, gah! naughty girls! They kept getting a time out LOL

The silkies are good too, but I still can't figure out their silly genders. I keep trying to figure it out, but not happening. I still think Snowcone is a rooster, but NO idea on the other two. Pompette, my hen, still won't silkie pile with them, but instead roosts. she's NEVER roosted before, ever!

Newbie here with 2 (to start) questions. I hope to get some silkies and showgirls in the near future, I live in town and our chicken ordenance only allows for one roo.
1. Out of the two breeds/types which would some of you recomend for a rooster.
2. What colors if any can I mix in a breeding pen. example...White roo to splash hen or black hen to blue splash roo?

you could probly get away with 2 roosters it not like any one going be in your coops, and one rooster crows as much as 2, if you want a lot colors i would breed blue, black, and splash

I agree that b,b,s is a good pen for variety of colors. And if you want a range of colorful chicks get 3 hens ( 1 each of b,b,s) and try to get a blue rooster. Any other colors need to have their own pens; for example white hens need to be bred to a white rooster. I don't know about showgirl roosters and their breeding, since we don't have any.

I would probably get a Silkie roo... that way you would have the option of breeding both pure Silkies or Showgirls. Also... just a personal thing, I like the look of the Showgirl hens much more than the Roosters. My Showgirl Rooster isnt a sweet as my Silkie boys but that may be just this individual boy. Since it is my only one I dont have much idea of their personalities. As far as color really mixing most colors isnt recommended but breeding Blue/black/splash works. With the other colors mixing pretty much gets you mixed up off coloring.

Out of a dozen or so silkies in my barn I had one hen that chose to rooster. The rest were all in one pile. :)

I agree. BBS for the most standard colors. Stay in touch!

Thanks to everyone for the comments on my boy!!! I hope he sells to someone close so his journey won't be so long...

I have posted pics awhile back of my silkie roo to find out exactly what color he was but the picture wasn't that good and the color couldn't be seen so here is more pictures. Please tell me if you think he is black or blue.

They are still not that great but I am hoping someone can tell. I do know that he has gold leakage.

I would say black but very difficult to tell without being able to see down under the surface feathers.
