Im not sure what happened. I was at the table and heard a strange sound in the coop, which is right outside the kitchen window. I stood up to look and all the chickens were standing still. No one moving. I was hoping a snake hadnt gotten in there and decided to go check things out, then the silkies all started running around crazy and attacking something and eating it. They were all very interested in eating it. I couldnt tell what it was because there were feathers on it. Then I noticed one of the silkies has blood on her foot. So we went out and picked her up and took a look. Her entire toe on one foot is gone. It didnt bleed alot. I washed her foot and put her seperate from everyone else (Im starting to run out of crates for chickens with all the chicken drama we've had in the last week). Will she be able to heal from this (assuming she doesnt develop an infection)?

The bleeding is completely stopped and the toe area looks like its scabbing up with some of the dried blood.

What kind of antibiotics should I put her on and how much should she be given?

I used Tetracycline when I had a chicken with a foot infection from losing a toe. The vet told me to mix it so it was "light yellow"! I am glad I found BYC so I can find a little better estimate! Your bird will be fine though. They do surprisingly well missing body parts it seems! Keep her quiet and warm during her treatment. Terri O
