Help!! Silkie went from feisty to lethargic in less than a day. She is about 12 weeks old and suddenly seems lethargic and sleepy all the time. Did not come out of the coop this morning with rest of chicks. Goes back and forth between diarrhea and normal. She just sits with her eyes closed. I'm new to this so not sure what to do. Her crop is soft and I felt something gritty inside. Not sure what it is supposed to feel like. If anyone has information, please help. Weather Temp has gone from hot to cool and wet to hot again.

You can purchase Corid 9.6% liquid solution at a feed store, it'll be in the cattle section. Dosage is 9.5cc's per gallon of water for 5 days. Make it fresh daily and it must be the sole source of treated water to drink. You might have to use an eyedropper to administer it orally as sick birds wont eat nor drink. Give her a small amount at a time, you don't want her to aspirate. Do this at least 5-6 times a day until she can drink the treated water on her own. It might be best if you let her flock mates drink the mixture as well.

Prettysilkies I have has some so the same thing, it is very heartbreaking to see them this way,

dawg53 Thank you! I will check the feed store tomorrow. I'm not sure this is what it is, but I have given her electrolytes, and water with ACV via syringe several times today. I also made a mash using their regular feed with a little plain yogurt in it. She ate some on her own. Her little breast bone is so prominent. I hadn't noticed due to all the fluff on her. I sure hope she pulls through this. I will give to rest of flock as well.

She made it through the night. My husband bought
Quote: My husband bought Corid 9.6 this morning. I made a solution using the strength you suggested. The little girl took some, but did not make it. She died a little later. She was very weak and could not even peep. I'm very upset and worried about the other girls.

Thank you for the info. It is very much appreciated.

Sorry for your loss. The chick may have been overwhelmed with the cocci protozoa if that's what it was .It wouldn't hurt to go ahead and give the corid to your other chicks.
