One of my 20 week old silkies injured her leg jumping from coop to the run. At least that's what I think happened. She started with just a limp, and is now dragging her leg. I can't feel anything wrong or out of place anywhere, and there aren't any lesions or sores or anything. She seems strong, other than just kinda flops with her wings trying to balance when she does get up. How much aspirin water should I feed her and how often for pain?

Thanks

It's true that limping is often a sign of pain.. but if you haven't identified an injury via swelling or heat, please don't medicate as it may mask symptoms.. How long has this been going on the limping before she started dragging

Pain is meant to slow the body down and keep us from injuring ourselves worse.

Was your Silkie vaccinated against Marek's?

Her is a link with contact information to your state poultry vet should you decide to send her in for necropsy testing...
State poultry labs

Sorry you face this. Hope she recovers quickly! :fl

I bought them from a private party, so don't know their history. As far as I know they have not been vaccinated. I also started with 3 Buff Orpingtons from a hatchery and only have one left. I guess I will call my local vets and see if they treat chickens. I feel so discouraged and like I'm just not meant to be a chicken mom. :(

That's not true ! :hugs I've lost a lot of chickens and it wasn't my fault and this isn't your fault ! Your doing the best you can ! :)

Thanks for all the responses. I had her put down today. Vet said there was definitely something neurological going on. I now need to decide how to proceed with the remaining 3 girls that I have. 2 silkies and one buff orpington. They seem fine for now, but I'm wondering how long that will last. From everything I'm reading, Marek's can last for years in the ground and surrounding area no matter what is done to clean up. Thanks again for responses, just thought I'd update.
