Silkie is having respiratory issues , grumbling when breathing, sneezing , horse voice when she makes sounds and a little bit of discharge in one of her eyes. Please, I Need to know what is the best course of action to help her, currently giving her oregano oil and VETRX plus Oregano Oil.

If it is an environmental ussue, such as mold, dust, or others, providing good ventilation and keeping bedding dry and as clean as possible is helpful. If there is a respiratory diseasesuch as infectious bronchitis, mg, or others, it may have to run it’s course over time. MG and coryza are bacterial diseases and may respond to certain antibiotics, such as tylosin. Make sure they are drinking plenty of fluids, and keep their nostrils clean. If there are bubbles or foam from an eye, it may be MG. That can make them carriers for life. It also can be transferred through hatching eggs and from direct contact with a carrier.

Thank you for the reply. Any advice on how to clear their nostrils?

I just went through something similar with my hens. They're kept in very clean conditions with lots of room, so definitely not a mold issue. I believe they picked up a bacterial infection from the wild turkeys that my neighbor feeds...(annoying).

I used a regimen of injectable Oxytetracycline, an oral dose of Nutridrench, electrolytes in their water and had amazing results. Within a few hours of the first injection, everyone was feeling better and breathing patterns were normal.

I am not a vet but I wanted to share how successful this treatment was for my flock. Do a little research into oxytetracycline. If your bird is afflicted with a bacteria that is susceptible to this particular antibiotic, you should see great results! I found it at my local Blue Seal. Good luck!

Side note: if you choose to treat with this antibiotic, you cannot consume the eggs for at least two weeks.
