Silkied D’Uccles Project

That's too bad about the cockerel. I would watch the pullet's beak though. It almost looks hairline.
Yeah I agree. Seems to be a thing that runs threw both my project D’Uccles. In some research I did a while back, beak deformities are a genetic thing in bearded breeds (I can get u the website if you want it). All my purebred Millie’s came from a feed store so I’d say the hatchery they get their chicks from has a genetic problem.

That's interesting. I do know that EEs are known to have crossbeak. I'll like to see the website.
With some feed stores you can find out the hatchery. It might be helpful to ask them.

Here’s the babies! The cockerel is starting to get his speckles

I don’t think my little pullet carries the mottleing gene

Just put my F1 pair together.View attachment 3912411

And it looks like my little F2 cockerel has a beak deformity. I wasn’t going to use him any way so he will be butchered

The pullet. Her beak still looks good.

Poor beak shapes are common in my d'Anvers, unfortunately. But fortunately, I've discovered quite a nice pullet with a well-shaped beak. Hopefully, I can use her to get away from it for good. Your project is quite interesting!

Good Luck with your d'Anvers
thanks!
I appreciate that you started the thread with the F2s. Too often I see a concept that never comes to fruition. Heck, I know how that is! It took me forever to get the cuckoo project off the ground.
Yeah I felt I had to start the thread when I actually had some possible silkied chicks. I also see some projects on here of many people who want to start all these projects and never go through with it or it just isn't possible for them to even do. I don't start project threads unless I can do the project and finish it.
