I have 4 silky hens. Almost as soon as they began laying, they also began sitting on their eggs. The four are in one big heap with a gazillion eggs under them, and a couple hatched yesterday. My question is, it is about 40 degrees here at night, anywhere from 63 - 75 during the day. (I'm in SC) While they are still under their mothers do I need to worry about getting a heat light on them? Do I need to actually DO anything at all? Being that the (enclosed on 3 side with a ladder to the floor) small coop they are in is a couple feet off the ground, I put a small water container (nothing anyone can drown in) in the corner. I've never had silkies before much less hens that got broody this time of year. Should I be doing anything else?
