Sorry, you have to forgive me...I'm a fish geek.

Me too.. with my Bettas!

Yet, it seems I have to be geeky about everything that interests me.. LOL .. So don't worry just because you haven't become a Trekkie.. yet..

Ps - My most beautiful Betta pair in the world won't spawn... waaaaaah.

Have you tried putting another female where the guy can see her? I've never messed with bettas much, but have heard that they can be picky in mates, and sometimes introducing another female can trigger mating.

I dunno. I never messed with freshwater fish too much.

I have had a few sucessful spawns in the past... but these guys are being so darn difficult!
They are truly perfect.. I'll find a pic in a moment.. and the male is the most energetic nest-bulider I've ever seen. The female, however.. is just not crazy about him. Even when shes been capable of seeing him for extended periods of time, or when I have them carded from sight of eachother. The female has in the past gotten her vertical bars and shown signs of readiness.. but the one time that happened he was being too agressive with her and I had to save her. Then the next time he was being great with her, but she was going bannanas around the tank and ripped up some of his gorgeous fins. I am about to try again soon here.. he has a lovely nest at present. I did at one point put another female in his sight.. a really great breeder.. and he was waaay exited and wouldn't focus on the other female. But shes not the color I want.. she's a platinum/gold and really nice.. but I dunno.
Confusion, confusion, fustration, confusion.. whine.....

Yeah, sounds like a lack of chemistry.

I have heard reintroducing them after a period of time might help. Maybe keep them both seperate away from any other fish for awhile? Kinda trick them into thinking they're the only two fish left?

If you want, I have an employee who breeds bettas, I can ask him if he has any suggestions. He deals mainly in anything freshwater we get in, because to be honest, freshwater fish bore me.

They don't have the personality of a saltwater fish IMO.

I love bettas, and love looking at them, but just never got interested enough to do anything with them. I bred seahorses instead.

ETA, beautiful bettas. Let me know if you want me to ask Kevin, I'm sure he might have some tricks to get the mojo going.

Thank you

Yeah, if you can ask your employee dude, that would be great. I have been in forums and stuff for advice, and frankly, I usually know more than those trying to advise me

So some advice from an adult would be fabulous..

Seahorses!!!!! Ooooh! Sigh!! I've always wanted them. Yet, I would be so afraid of killing them. And, I have never tried a saltwater tank.. too scary, LOL! I'll stick with the easier stuff. Though I've also always wanted some of those adorable puffer fish.. and.. and... nemo fish...

I'll ask him tomorrow when he calls to give me my report and ask me when I'm coming back to work.

I loved my Seahorses. Nothing more calming than watching a seahorse. They do everything calmly and rather slowly. Even fight.
