the darker colored one appears to be a pullet the lighter one looks like a cockeral because of how the comb lays more flat in the front.

Agree...the stance and attitude of the lighter one says "cockerel" to me.
I have 3 female silkies - 2 look like yours in the first photo and 1 is all black. I've never seen any of them stand up and stare back at me like photo 2. They are low in the pecking order however.

Funny thing is, when I first got the chicks (4 altogether and only two silkies,) the light gray one would always be huddling under all the other chicks. The light gray one still seems the most skittish. I thought cockerels were a little braver. Is there any possibility that it could be a pullet?:fl

Interesting...chickens all have their own personalities!
My experience has been that the cockerels are usually the friendliest chicks (once they get to know you as protector and food supply), and endear themselves to you, so it's harder to get rid of them later.
But I have also noticed that young cockerels will sometimes burrow under other low-status birds, using them as feathery shields from the unfriendly ones higher in the pecking order!
By 8-9 weeks you might get behaviour like crowing or chasing the others around.
