Silkies in Winter

I haven't had that problem yet, but I suspect I will soon. Good to know about making them go back in the coop! Silly, stubborn, fluffy things...

I did switch out the ramp for a step stool. That helped them get in their coop.
Ok Kool. Do you ever trim their fluff? Yes, making them go in is the best prevention unless they are protected from the elements. I have 3 new ones I refuse to put out yet due to their low tolerance, but it COLD here!

Mine go in their coop no prob. Another poster said theirs did not go in in inclement weather.

I gave not trimmed because mine are still young and not that poofy yet. Plus, they're hatchery birds, and they don't get as fluffy as breeder's would.

Oops! I need to trim mine again, they get so clumsy when it grows out lol.

Oh, I bet! I will def trim if my pullet's poof gets much bigger. My other Silkie is a cockerel, so it's not really going to be a problem for him.

Here's little Violet, my pullet:

Oh how adorable!!! I have 8 silkies now. I'm praying at least 2 are pullets from the 3 new but I have VERY bad luck! :hit

Oh, I hope so, too! I only have 2. I ended up with one of each. Love them sooooo much! I can have roos, so I decided to keep him. That was NOT what I'd planned, but it's working out fine so far.
