Silkies Of A Different Color

I wasn't much on the different colors until I hatch a blue partridge and then I got him, and I love unusual colors the best now. Have you gotten to see any or your guys offspring yet? I bet they are gorgeous.

I'm pretty happy with them...
Her foot feathering could be better, there's some younger ones that have better foot feathering. Everything else looks pretty good

The chick in the first pic is definately "a silkie of a different color" he/she is going to be pretty.

I can't wait to see the color of the baby as it's get older. Nice pullet! She is still young, she has time to get more foot feathering. I have culled chicks because of foot feathering and they ended up with great feathering

I finally got a lavender silkie! I really don't know how this happened but it happened last hatch and the little chick didn't make it but this time this one is doing well! here (hopefully she) is!.....

I let the silkies just have their way and set on their eggs in the coop and hatch them and raise them on their own, so far it was going well until now, this little one is one of two that hatched late and no one claims them! I was able to get her out before broody mama hens killed her, she has a wound on her back where they pecked her to hard....the other one has wry neck so I am not sure it will make it....I promised my hubby no more chicks this year in the house! now what!? I have one that just went broody a few days ago I am wondering if she will take her if I remove the eggs she has.

I get some whites that start out the color of your chick

A little off topic but I need help! I have an infestation of German roaches in my coops. They come out at night when my hens area already nesting for the night and won't chase/eat them. I use Sevin dust liberally....no help with roaches.

What can I use to kill them that won't harm the silkies?

Also, if I find an effective poison, will it poison my babies to eat the dead carcasses? Aerosols are out of the question because birds have such a sensitive respiratory system, it would kill them.

PLEASE HELP!

You need liberal amounts (piles in corners) of DE. Forgive the spelling but here goes: Diatomaceous Earth. DE is not a poison. It will dehydrate those nasty bugs. Have you tried any sort of trap? Perhaps something like a large bucket that they crawl into and can't leave. Then you "feed" your chickens in the morning.

oh! how strange, I have notice these ugly boogers in my runs hiding under the waterers. I have also found them in the feed on occasion. My biggest concern is I am terrified they will find their way to the house as my coops are directly in my back yard. I have had chickens for two years and never seen one roach. My back yard is all cedar and to my understanding roaches hate cedar. I haven't seen them in the coops so far, but I REALLY don't want them near the house, I have heard they are near impossible to get rid of!

I have never heard of DE getting rid of roaches????
I to have seen some creepy crawlers when I go to shut the coop up at night. When I shine the flashlight they take off!
I am also worried about them coming to the house!!!!!!!!
