Silkies Of A Different Color

Thank you!

I have some Columbians right now. I think it was this thread that someone mentioned it. I have been meaning to post some pictures in the Columbian thread but haven't yet.

I have posted a lot of pictures in this thread. Just keep going backwards! Ha! Ha!

my columbian rooster, he was my only rooster in the flock last year and got some really nice hens that i kept for this year. including a pure white hen with a huge crest and black tips to her tail poof, wings and feet. but not on her neck

, thought i was so close having a columbian hen but most of his babies are pale pearl, gray, or pale colored partridge. but almost all are white with black spots when they hatch??
i'll post more pictures in the columbian post later

I posted more pictures up on the columbia silkie thread. I'll try to post pictures of some of his kids from earlier this spring. and some of his lady's in the breeding pen with him now. Plus there will be eggs due to hatch in a couple weeks. He seems to be producing lots of new looking colors? Well new to me :) But i just wish they all pop out of the egg looking like him!!!
New projects are never that easy though right???
He's my first real project, does any one know of a good source for a chicken genetics book??? Eager to learn :)

If I have to find my silkie a new home because it's a Roo, does anyone have a pullet for sale to replace it for my son?? I live in NW Florida, close to the AL state line. Not picky on color, he just wanted a fluffy chicken

Thanks

hello all,
got a color question about this show boy above. last year i picked him up from a breeder that had all of his newly hatched chicks in a bin all together, so he wasn't exactly sure what breeding pens they where from. i know he had lavenders and blues, and all my other blues are much darker in color.
does blue come in many shades?
any chance he's got lavender in there??
keep him mostly because he's a sweetie. but he's in with my frizzle polish hens hoping for some nice looking sizzle show girls chicks in a few weeks.

Think I might be in denial too!!!
I have a 10-11 week old tort aswell, looks very much like the one in the picture. And I so don't want her to be a him!!!! Is this all ways a set in stone fact that copper color on gray = boy??
Hopeing I had a great girl to add to my creole silkie project

If in hte male pattern areas, yes. A girl would show colour on her breast.

, but I was calling it Blue Grey at your suggestion from here https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/690632/silkie-breeding-genetics-showing/5340#post_11604849. I know it is not a standard color and it will likely go to a friend for a pet, just wanna know what color I should call it, since I know she will ask.

That previous photo shows up the pattern much better than these do. So I will go back to my earlier statement and say ignore the later one
