love this thread. anything different is for me. not the best at genetics. I would like to list my colors and get ideas of who to breed with who to get unusual colors.

hens
white-black-blue-lavender-partridge-partridge with a white under coat-buff-splash-grey.

roos
white-partridge-buff-blue-black partridge-and I have a roo that has EVERY color on it(upper body white,tail blue,buff hackles,black streamers,red on back)

any suggestions appreciated.

1st off the Cuckoos, it would just happen that 2 more just hatched out! Some wyandottes, and really going to cut back on some of ther breeders to make room for the new one's. We have about 200 silkies here. It is easier for someone to say "hey I'm looking for?" Then I can say, yes we have 20 of thoses, etc.

It's the GQF's fault, just to easy to hatch out all the little buggers!

do you ever travel north to show birds? I am in NH and would love a cuckoo.

What colors are all accepted by the APA? Sorry newbie to Silkies question - and what colors are not that alot of people seem to be working on .

Hey all you Silkie Project Breeders out there. Let's see what other colors are out there beside what is found in the SOP.

Here are a few of mine.

Will you be at the MD show? If so you will se for your self. If not the Pearl is a Smokey grey color. Looks like a dirty white, for lack of a better term.

I love the "salmon" silkie! I've only just begun keeping chickens. I have one white silkie rooster, one white hen and one buff hen. But I think my buff hen would really like that salmon for a companion!

Currently accepted colors are white, black, blue, buff, splash, gray, and partridge. I think gray and partridge are the least common. Hopefully Lavender will be accepted by the end of the year thanks to Bren, Deb, and others.

They remind me of dryer lint, LOL I tried hatching the cuckoos a few years back and failed each time. Sighs...one day, I'll get me some silkies!

Calesta Rieth who lives in the Spokane area, has some of the nicest cuckoo silkies I have laid my eyes on. She also has cuckoo showgirls. I have a cuckoo and a cuckoo showgirl from her, they are GORGEOUS. She even has a cuckoo with black skin, and, finally, a black comb. The showgirl I have has mottled black and pink skin and comb- work in progress. I need to breed cuckoo on cuckoo as the cuckoo silkie hen I have has thrown me nothing but blacks under a black cock.
