Silkies Of A Different Color

He hatched like that but she didn't notice it until t was too late to tape it. Poor little guy! He tries hard to do his roosterly duties, but he just can't do it. The hens assume the position and he can't ride. I really need to find him a place as a pet, but who keeps pet chickens?

My chickens are all pets, especially my Silkies!

I was hoping somebody could tell me the color of these silkies. They came from a white roo and black hen. They look almost like dark purple bluish color. Can not be lavender due to the parents lacking the lavender genes .https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/71009_2011-11-11_013.jpg
this is the older one.

Maybe could be some shade of blue but what?

Mire likely that your black hen is really a dark blue. they are hard to tell apart sometimes. If you blow into the under fluff, if the color is light sort of like a blueish color she is really blue. Hope this helps.

Good point April. I will do that in the morning .Most of their babies have been this really pretty blue that has stayed true( they are ten months old), with just a few being black. No spots have appeared on any of them so I know they are not splash. So if she is blue then the white also has the blue gene that would be why I am getting this color?
Ok ,one more question . Is this a normal color in silkies? It's just the first time I have seen it also is this color showable?
The older one is a very nice roo.Nice body type, feet, and really nice crest.I guess that was two questions

hello silkie experts - i'd love your input on these three babies!

hatched yesterday (11-11-11, my lucky ones!) under mama hen, they already seem so big and fluffy!

what color do you think they'll grow up to be?

dads are either a partride sizzle roo or his son, a reddish-sort of roo...

moms are either partridge, grey or white... or might be a birchen bantam frizzle!

i'm guessing i might have a diluted partridge, a partridge and a blue?

VIDEO TO SEE THEM BETTER:

thank you for your input!

I would like to ask a question of anyone familiar with grey or silver partridges - this summer I hatched out this little guy who is either dark blue or black with silver leakage. As he grows, he is getting more and more silver/white markings - I couldn't get a very good photo of his back, but there is some leakage on his wings and back. Would he work for a silver partridge program? I am pretty sure I know which of my silkies are his parents - his mom is a black hen and his dad a white cockerel who was growing out in the girl pen (and I didn't think was ready yet, but he was!

) I don't have any other silver partridges, so any guesses as to who I should breed him to? I have some of his sisters but they are solid black.

Thanks!

Hello everybody, I am new here on this forum and from Belgium (Europe). I was adviced to post some of my different colored Silkies in this tread. I breed on Silver variants of the European Silkies but I think they come close to the American type. What I like to show to you are project birds (5th generation) they still need 2 generations to be completely finished. My goal is to make the Silver Silkies more attractive.

This is a lavender silver partridge hen.

This is a detail of the subtile difference between the silver and lavender coloring.
