Silkies Of A Different Color

Pics
Thankyou for the reply.. Also can you answer me another question, can a 10 week old silkie be broody so young? She has a little sister the same age but a lot smaller (not sure why) she sits on her and when she tries to walk away the little one runs over and try's to get back under! It is funny to watch but is it normal? Tracy x

You could say so "columbian melanized" because they are eb/eb S/S*S/- Co/Co Ml/Ml
I have being a project for "columbian" Silkies but for some strange reason this not work on females !!!
That was the reason I switched to Silver Quails in Silkies which seems to work good on both sexes.
The roo on the photo had about 5 months.

What you intend with "autosomal red and pencilling" ??

.
yes.

Silver quail blackheads am I seeing melanzined columbian in the mix?
both look void of any off colors, I have seen many females like this here but not males as your pictured.

How old is the male if I may ask?

looks void of autosomal red and pencilling

I think it is more likely the little sister is looking for some "mothering" and the bigger sister is willilng to oblige. I've seen this fairly often.

I've got a sizzle pullet that didn't tolerate a younger brother sister pair at all till one died. She then buddied up with the sister. Then months later I had a little sizzle that just refuses to grow. All it's hatch mates are 3X it's size. I think it's a pullet but not sure but she eats and drinks right along with everybody else and just dn't grow. anyway one of her much bigger hatch mates cuddles with her under her wing at night to keep her warm.

They are all stunning ! A friend of mine has one this color and didn't know what it was called ,somebody told her grey partridge but it doesn't look to be. It looks just like these guys.

@ Donna McCormick, the hens you showed are what is called here in Europe "light Silver Partridges". You can still see the pencelling on the wings and back. In genetics this means they have the ground-color "eb/eb" (= Asiatic Partridge) S/S * S/- (= based on Silver S/S for roosters, S/- for hens because this gene is sex-linked) Pg/Pg or Pg/pg+ (= Pattern gene which is a Dominant gene so it already express (incomplete) in single doses).

@ Birds & Eggs, the Silkies you showed can be considered as (incomplete) Columbians. Here you see NO more the pencelling but you see most black-pigment is restricted to tail, wing pens, feed feathers and should also be in the neck. In genetics this means they have as ground-color "eb/eb" but also possible on "eWh/eWh" (= Wheaten) S/S *S/- , Co/Co or Co/co+ (= Columbia gene which restrict black-pigment to tail, wing pens, feed feathers and neck). This last could als be Db/Db or Db/db+ (= Dark brown which also restrict the black-pigment as the Co-gene except not to the neck = clear necked).

As you can see the roosters come closer to Columbian than the hens which have no more black feathers in the necks what Columbians should have.
