Well here are my two choices in Red males with red heads.. Note: it's the young one with 4 toes, but great in every other aspect. One year old View attachment 3993181 vs 4-5 month old.View attachment 3993180View attachment 3993179

The older one is more partridge color.

I like the tail and body on the younger one better.

If going for color with partridge hens, older is better choice. If not worried on color, I would probably use the younger one and just cull out any 4 toed offspring from future breedings. Can often find homes easily for 4 toed pullets so that shouldn't be an issue.

Silkies are dumber than rocks

Cut their crests so they can see. That's most of their issue. They've proven smarter on learning than my ameraucana and easter eggers.

2 weeks to get the large fowl to use a treadle feeder. 3 days and silkies had it down. Then they figured out how to use the treadle feeder to kill any starlings or such that try to steel their food.

Young one hasn't gone thru all his molts yet, so final color is yet to be determined. I'll put the pullets in with the older one until he's at least a year, then make up my mind.
