Well, stuff happens around here! Found one of my pullets stuck between a cage and another pen.. Lord, how long have you been there? I got her out, but her legs and feet weren't functioning. I did some light exercise with her legs, like she was riding a bicycle, and massaged her feet.. set her in a medium sized dog crate and prayed for a good outcome.
The next day she was still not up, and was using her wings for support to stay upright.. I pulled her out, put dmso on her feet hoping to relieve swelling and pain.. the 3rd day I started putting dmso on her back over the saddle area. (DMSO is used in hospitals for spinal injuries.) DMSO has a way of restoring cells to normal function. By the 3 day I noticed she was moving around the cage just by the droppings from one end to another, and she was at half stand. She did move her legs veryyyyyyyy slowlyyyyyyy, and carefully. Like she was trying to walk around invisible glass or some hazard. Day 4 I took her out in the back yard for some fresh air and sunshine.. she picked at the grass and stood up, then took 4-5 wobbly steps, like a toddler learning to walk. I kept up the same routine, except putting her in the baby bed brooder where she would have more room. She's got a great disposition, doesn't seem to be in any pain, like the first day or so. I took this video on day 5. Note she's walking a bit better, but the steps seem exaggerated. She's not show quality but a future egg producer for me so I don't care about that. I'm just amazed and pleased at the resilience of these seemingly fragile birds.
