First time silkie owner. “She” is 10 weeks old. Any ideas on gender? Might need to get a few more to keep her company. As of now she has some polish chicks with her. She is the shyest since day one and doesn’t let me get close. View attachment 2147137View attachment 2147145

Aww what a cutie!

I'm afraid I'm probably not going to be much help in guessing gender. 10 weeks may be a bit young to tell (by 3-4 months my silkies start becoming obvious but I've heard it can take a lot longer). Some of my cockerels develop both streamers and larger combs by 10 weeks and others are slower to mature. I'm not seeing any obvious streamers on your little one yet and the comb isn't terribly large so nothing is screaming male to me at this point though. :)

What's a streamer?

What's a streamer?

Streamers are longer feathers that come out of the back of the crest.

Here is a picture I took of one of my cockerels a bit ago to show his streamers. They are the white tipped feathers coming out of the back of his crest (circled to help show where they are). :)

And here are some streamers on a 10 week old cockerel. They aren't quite as obvious but you can see them starting to come in a bit.
