This little girl is part of my "let's see if I can make a blue layer silkie". She's 3/4 silkie but isn't close to standard. One of her sisters has almost correct body type but lays tinted. They are kept in a seperate pen so no cross breeding with the actual partridge silkies.

She has the biggest comb I've had on a hen. She does lay a nice blue egg though.

My broody went back to the wrong nest :thshe was sitting on 1 egg keeping it toasty warm when I found her, 5 eggs were cold in her nest :hit
I didn't check for about 5 hours, not sure when she got off so maybe maximum 4.5 hours off her 5 eggs since one if the others laid the fresh egg. Anyone think I still might have chicks growing or is it most likely they are dead? Shes been sitting on them for 4 days. Any hope? She has been off the nest before and gone back to her nest but for some reason she didn't today.

So sorry to hear this.😞 Did you candle the eggs? If there is life signs may be worth putting them in an incubator and see if they develop to day 7 at least. 🙂
I havent candled, usually do day 7. I don't have an incubator, just Silkies 😂.. This sort of thing happening is a good reason why separating a broody is a good idea.

You should be able to see if there is development by now. Attached photo, day 4 egg. Maybe no point though if you do not have an incubator.🙁
Can you borrow one from someone?

My broody is still broody and sitting on the 5 eggs, I put her back on straight away, so she is still the incubator. .. I'll have to shift the mumma and chicks out of their coop I think so my broody can go in there and have only her nest to sit on... If eggs are good anyway... Maybe I need a better torch. That would he better to break broody at day 4 if nothing is developing.
