I saw today my clever 2 (probably boys) worked out to open the treadle feeder it takes 2 of them that size 😃 teamwork!.. Roo quickly chased them off though (and yes they do have access to a standard open feeder always full of food)

So candled the eggs under my young broody and all appear to be infertile or just not doing anything. Tossed the eggs and hopefully Kana will get over it quickly. No problem, back to original plan of Spring hatches!😊
poor Kana, I'm sure she'll go broody again for you in Spring.. Multiple times haha
...I had 1 yolker out of the 5 I put under Nugget. The others have veins so hope they are still alive after the wrong nest incident. .. I had another go broody yesterday so I stuck 1 egg under her but I don't think it's fertile, I'll candle in a couple days and find out I guess.

We went from one, to five in a three month span. They are the most gentle little birds! Jadis is our favorite hen, and our one and only pearl guinea that survived Hurricane Laura and Delta has decided that she's "mom". It hilarious watching them at night because the guinea's almost twice her size but still tries to go under her belly.... she just adjusts herself on the guinea's neck and lets it happen. It's the cutest thing. The other birds leave them to themselves all day too. I think some of that is because Guinea Baby (yes such an original name I know) is so loud when she thinks somebody is messing with her flock-mates. <3

So half of my silkie roosters don't grow spurs. The ones that do, they grow in a spiral but fairly slow.

This is Leven who is half silkie half ameraucana so his spurs grow fairly quick. I used to trim them because they were growing towards his legs. Both have twisted some and are passing behind his legs now. So I'm keeping an eye on them instead of cutting now.

It's just the weirdest thing on spurs. He has 6 toes on this foot so ignore any weirdness there. That's how he got his name. Eleven toes, shortened to Leven.
