Happy May Day!🌸🌺🌼
3 chicks have hatched so far in my staggered hatch. 2 more have internally pipped. Photo shoot my daughter took while I was cleaning their brooder yesterday. 😊View attachment 2644134View attachment 2644135View attachment 2644136View attachment 2644137View attachment 2644138View attachment 2644139

Congratulations on the new little ones, they are adorable! I still can't believe how tiny Hanabi is compared to newly hatched silkies! :love

Between the broodies (4 right now, 3 silkies and the english orp) taking up all the nest boxes, disturbing the other chickens' laying routine, and chicken math (up to 18 chickens now) I have decided to make a separate coop and run for the silkies plus Hanabi. My husband is pretty tool handy, having a background in construction, but he has no interest or time to build it. So I found someone who can build it for me. It will be smallish, 4 x 4 ft, and movable if need be. Planning to attach it to a 10 x 5 x 6 dog run. Covering the entire run with 1/2 inch hardware cloth with a 12 inch skirt to keep those pesky mongoose out. Won't be huge, but I think sufficient. Might just keep the boys in the tractor, which would be plenty big for two birds, assuming they get along.
Will keep the standard layers in the original open coop/run which is 12' x 12'.
I am selling both Akira and Imari to a lovely lady that has bought chicks from me a few months ago and takes excellent care of them. That will bring it down to 16 birds in all, split between the two coops. Who new that hatching eggs as part of a pandemic project would lead to all this...🤪

Pippin has gone broody again... Its only been 7 weeks since the last time she was broody.
Her sister, Fries, is all lonely outside again
You breaking her or hatching some chicks!? .. mine often go broody once a month or every 8-12 eggs they lay. I'm use to their routine now I can guess who's next 😂 .
... My cockerel Biscuit is mating (even though he is getting chased off by Rooster) so I have fertile eggs :celebrateRooster still only gets half on the hens like he can't be bothered but is still head of the flock. I have too many boys and know what I Should do but can't do it! I want to keep them all ☹️ Rooster is a good role model for the young boys and kicks some manners into them so he does have a purpose!

We are hoping to get her a fertile egg off Ebay but we can only get a maximum of 2 eggs (because we have a coop for 6 chickens- 2 hens and 3 chicks moving out to the coop in a week so... Yeah).
We have her sat on a supermarket egg at the moment
