@FluffyLambs, @LadiesAndJane Congratulations to you both on the medal! 😁

Wow, he is a looker! 😍Are you planning to keep him? Is he a dominant white?

I am quite pleased with how Eko is turning out. He is barely 6 months old.
You were so right about waiting it out.❤️
Can't wait to see what his babies look like!
Happy to hear you have so many eggs developing! 😃
I have 15 out of 18 developing well, here on day 8. I pulled 2 clears and 1 blood ring yesterday. So rewarding to incubate my own birds' eggs after the disappointment with all the shipped ones earlier this year. Though I did get Eko out of them, so not complaining!🤣🥰.

Thank you! I'm not sure about keeping him or not yet, I'd like to see how he continues to fill out. If his temperament stays nice I'll be tempted though. He has potential but his back is a little long, he might pair well with some girls who are strong in the areas he is weak. He's actually a recessive white that popped out of my test breeding of a white hen and a silver partridge/grey boy. I'm not really working on that color but I might make a small recessive white breeding group anyway. 😊

That is great you've got 15 still doing good (it really is so much less stressful hatching your own eggs)! I can't wait to see the babies from Eko too, he is such a handsome boy! 🥰

I just added in another 7 eggs from the same pen as I have someone interested in chicks. I shouldn't count my chicks before they hatch but I'm hopeful there should be enough for me to grow out at least 10 or so and enough for her to get the 8 chicks she was hoping for. :fl

I find people really like the white silkies, even if they are one of the most common colors. Especially if they are super fluffy like yours. 🥰
I am collecting more eggs too, as the girls keep laying, so I will likely get that second incubator going!
How long do you collect before setting? I have gone as much as a week, but I do not have enough yet to fill the incubator, and staggered hatches are always so draining.😊

Hopefully people will like the whites here too! I love that recessive white is a pretty straight forward color, it makes it a lot easier to focus on type without having to factor in a lot of other things. 😊

How long I wait to collect depends on how well they are laying but usually I like to collect for a week then set the eggs (unless they lay the amount I want before then). If they aren't laying much sometimes I wait as long as two weeks to collect. I find anything longer starts to affect the hatch a bit.

Sounds like you'll have lots of babies soon, I can't wait to see them! 🥰

I'd love to hatch some more too, my girls are laying a lot more than I can incubate right now! I'll probably wait to see what this pen produces from this batch then see if I can do some presales. It can be kind of tough to find the chicks homes around here. Because of this I try not to hatch too many more than I can grow out myself unless they already have homes lined up.

You'll have to post baby photos, too!
Yes, can be hard to sell if you do not have somebody in mind already. Though in my area silkies sell pretty easily.
I have a wait list for about half the chicks (eggs?), hopefully I can sell any others or I may have to keep some.🤣

I definitely will when they hatch! 😁

That is wonderful you've got so many with homes lined up already! I hope finding homes for any you aren't wanting to keep goes well too! 😊

I've gotta a Silkie question...

So hubby and I went on a mini vacation to a B&B out here on the Northern California coast. The owner had a whole mess of Silkies in a really cute run behind the inn.

Comparing them to my 2, they looked huuuuge! Now I'm wondering if mine are just e tra small or hers were extra large. Those are the only other Silkies I'd seen in person. And they were not crosses.

How big are your Silkies? Like, how tall are they? How much do they weigh? Mine are just over a lb and stand about 7-8 in tall.
