Good job, Omelet!I saw Omelet breed the girls (not the silkie girls though) for the first time today!

So perpetually broody Layla, quite suddenly decided not to be broody anymore!
She had been off the eggs, I believe for a few hours before I noticed. I grabbed the eggs and put them in the incubator while I let the chickens out to "free range". Layla wanted to be out as well. When they went back in the run after another hour, she showed no indication of wanting to go back to her nest, which she usually does. Right now, she is still just wandering around the run with the other girls, living her best chicken life.
I checked the eggs after they warmed up and the little embryos are moving around nicely. It is DAY 9. Should I see if she will set again, or just call this a failed attempt?
I thought it was quite funny as well!Sorry to react with a laugh it just sounds like something some of my silly girls would do too!
I'm glad the eggs are both doing well despite that. I don't have any advice on what to do since I've got a bad track record when it comes to broodies and incubating (definitely partly my fault for not separating them better). I'm sure you'll get some good advice from those here who have had successful broody hatches though!![]()
Missed this post somehow! Your birds are gorgeous!can anyone explain some basic colour genetics in silkies? i understand blue/black/splash. but buff, white, partridge, paint etc are harder to find info on!

What an awesome photo! Your daughter is darling and so is Fuzzbert.I love seeing all your silkies and babies!! It gives me baby Silkie fever though and I have no more room for more chickens!so I’m gonna lurk on here and live vicariously through all of you! I just love my silkies, they’re so cute and silly! Sort of like my daughter! This is her with one of her favorite chickens Fuzzbert. She’s the best little girl

Thank you! They’re a cute pairWhat an awesome photo! Your daughter is darling and so is Fuzzbert.
My teenage daughter helps me with the birds and I give her half of whatever money I get for chicks.
Her favorite bird is our crazy silkie Layla.
She calls Layla her “therapy chicken” and walks around with her under one arm.![]()
Yes, something very grounding and calming about keeping chickens.Thank you! They’re a cute pair![]()
What a great way to make chickens a family affair! Someday my daughter might be willing, but I’m almost certain she will always be the “let’s keep them all I love them” kind!Layla sounds like she’s a very patient crazy Silkie haha
I have definitely decided that my chickens are therapy chickens! Your daughter sounds very wise
how can those fluffy silly chickens not be good for your mental well being?
I’m sorry Layla doesn’t wanna be a mommy quite yet! Can’t wait to see the babies though!
