These two silkies hatched last night and are already in the brooder. Three others have also hatched, they’re still in the dryer. They have already figured out how to eat and drink. They have been sleeping halfway out of the heat as the house is 85° Inside, great chick temperature, not so much for humans.😊View attachment 2900429
Wait...85°? I thought they should be at 99.5 in brooder?

Ah gotcha
But now I'm seeing I may have misread somewhere else bout brooder temp...incubator temp should be 99.5
Brooder should be what?
I use brooder plates so I never have to measure temperature. If you’re using the traditional red heat lamps, then start at 95° and go down 5° each week of the chicks age.😊
I highly recommend the brooder plates though, they are awesome, more natural for the chicks, less hassle, and reduced fire hazard.

Well i just got a brooder plate but it doesn't have a temp to know what it is...just says brooder or heater.

So I have been struggling all day long trying to get 99.5 even in a confined tiny bathroom.
It's this Producer's Pride Brooder And Coop Heater and in using it as brooder currently.

Snowy my White rooster started mating Huggy! I am pretty excited about it because I would like to breed him. And he is sooo gentle! I can't say that about my Sablepoot roos...

Also I no longer have that white cage there. This is Lilly's new broody coop! It's a bit small but they only sleep in there😉
