Well its now 66 inside.. and theres more outages, so i think ill just have to settle in for the cold. Ill move my dogs and parrot into my bedroom.. honestly there isn't really a warm room in the house, but maybe our body heat will collect. The temps will be dropping into the teens tho, so no power does suck. Maybe, hopefully, the storm will pass on through more quickly than expected.

I do have hot water.. so just to keep moving and not feel colder or bored or down, im going to start deep cleaning the house. I do hope power comes on though, even for a few hours. Then the house can at least warm up again.

If you have some hot water bottles fill them and you can use these wrapped in a towel to keep the chicks warm if they need it.

In fact, my neighbors just texted me, while watxhing me heat my truck, that everything is closed and they can make me a sandwich omgggggg

Ill be back when power js up. Just charged my phone enough for an emergency.

Yall...I gotta tell somebody before I explode from anger and sadness at myself!
i have noone to blame but myself!
My OCD was killing me looking at the level coop i convinced my husband to get my son-in-law to build. Is it perfect, no, does it work? YES!
This was after i had convinced my husband the silkies needed some sort of a run to go with the pre-fab coop joke i had gotten myself into cuz as the article says...I'm always learning as i go. So in an effort of compromise my husband got me this metal structure 10'x20'. Most people would have been thrilled at somesomething so nice...not me - immediately i thought "i can make it work".
long story short is I've spent the last few gorgeous days we had here before all this heavy rain trying to jack up this unleveled run to be even with the new coop.
why?! Why didnt i just spend those gorgeous days with my babies!?!
I have to be the most stubborn person in the world!!!
i put the tarps back on in preparation for the rain coming. I wake up this morning immediately thinking of ways to keep the water from coming into the front of the run. And thankful I got the 25' trench started with daughter's help.
I look out the window to find the tarps pooling in the center of the run with water bending the metal structure.
Wait...it gets worse.
i told my husband to go onto work that I would figure something out. He said i should be able to prop longer pieces of wood in under it to give it support til i get the water off.
I get inside the run and see the hardware cloth has separated in the center where it was joined with ultra strong zip ties and only the tarp is holding up gallons of water ready to pour into my dry run.
So I took a long piece of wood and as soon as I went to try and prop it up under the metal bars it all gave way.
It didn't completely come down on me...I'm ok. I had to crawl out from inside the back of the run.
I had no choice but to puncture a hole in the tarp and start draining the water...at first I was so upset and frustrated I just watched as the water poured into the dry run. Then stubborn me grabbed a 6 gallon bucket and it immediately filled up while it was still going everywhere including the bucket. I emptied that thing atleast 6 or 7 times.
I stand back as the rain is quickly turning to ice and temps dropping into low 30s to see this disastrous mess I once thought I could keep making better and make do with.
The story if my life never being content! Never really appreciating what I have until it is gone! Why my husband continues to put up with me after 31 years I will never know.
I'll be fortunate if I have anything else but this nice coop now. The babies are all stuck inside - dry - but unable to do anything but stare at 4 walls.
I am beyond thankful Mango, Milli and Vanilli were NOT here! They could have been crushed and hurt badly!
oh Lord why am i like this!?!
Thank yall for listening as always...I really dread my husband seeing it like this!

Learning as I go...take 3 coop/run 2021

What began as an empty nester's Mothers Day gift from my three adult children has turned into the most expensive yet peaceful time I've had since coming to know God! While the cute little pre-fab coops seemed perfect for a small backyard and had all of the cuts and measurements already done...

Not anymore...it's a disaster.

I'm sorry you are so angry and sad right now
But - that you didn't get hurt and none of your little ones got hurt (or even worse) is GOOD.
That Mango, Milli and Vanilli were already at their new home and therefore were not in danger is GOOD.
That you do have your husband and your daughter for help is GOOD.
That there is a little separate run under your coop is GOOD.
That tarp can be repaired is GOOD.


I know from own experience that it is very difficult to predict how newly installed tarp will act when rained on.
From looking at the picture you posted I think you will not have to change many things to make it work!

Do you get much snowfall in your region? This is perhaps something to consider when making changes/repairs.

I love camping and have lived overseas where i had to carry water, so its just another day, albeit colder!! So the house is still warm according to normal people standards but its dropping. I decided to organize so i could move, warm up, get things done. My little sweeper is rechargeable too, so i even managed to vacuum!!

Neighbors are so sweet, they saw me trying to figure out my ice covered truck earlier and texted me that i should stay inside and they could make me a sandwich omg.. too funny.. but they just called and are picking me up a burger while they are out!

I managed to recharge my phone in my truck, i have one outlet that allows a trickle charge, so that was convenient. So i can run it down again before bed.

I threw some worms in for the big girls, tried to throw in scratch, but the container was iced shut. But they like worms most anyhow. They all (except Esmeralda) moved up to the high perch next to the nest boxes. Probably warmer there. But everyone looked good.

Little ones are pecking away and chirping in the brooders. They seem very content.

My maltipoos are shivering, but I'm going to wrap them up w me on the sofa in a few. I'll let them sleep w me tonight too.

Neighbors said they saw power workers out, so they are hoping power will be up soon.. but.. im not counting on it. I'll keep busy though. I need to figure out a backup power solution once i am working!!

Yeah it's not the tarp it's the metal structure under the tarp that's broken.
Husband just laughed.
Not much snow...if I had listened and left the run unlevel then this wouldn't have happened cuz it let the rain drain off the tarp.
I just never learn.

Yay!! Its back on!!

Ok.. not trying to sound negative, but we have even colder temps and sleet coming shortly, so i am not expecting it to STAY on.. but if we can get at least an hour, the house will be warmed back up to my subtropical comfort zone!!!
