my eggs started to hatch. I have had 2 mistery eggs, either silkie (from my rip roo) or pekin. I helped a chick get out as membrane was as thick as leather and I think it is a beautiful black silkie:weeI didn't want to examine the chick as it is still weak but it seems it has 5 toes. another one is hatching as well as one brahma and one leghorn. I have 3 eggs more, 2 brahma and 1 leghorn.
Congrats!❤️

I use large flake pine shavings in the run, spot clean daily but no major cleaning maybe every 3 to 4 months at most.
Using sand/PDZ mixture under the roosts helps keep everything clean and easy to maintain.
I also sprinkle PDZ out in the run as needed to keep smell and flies down.
The edges of the run get wet if it’s really windy when it rains but it’s nothing major.😊
Ok that's bout same as what I do just curious. Thank u!

i think i can disagree on one thing and that is there laying skills (in my experience)

FYI i love silkies (and pekins but i think this is not the thread for pekin talk )the post before this is NOT to insult silkies i am just saying i have not got good experience with the egg laying ability's

With the exception of broody time, i was getting eggs every to every other day w my previous silkies. Curious what this tiny silkie is going to do. Today she was able to reach the water without a step 🤣 finally!

Ugh.. hate that integrating is starting all over.. so stressful! I hate watching the little ones be chased! There was finally peace in the run prior to the freeze.

I notice the little black polkie holds her own.. still runs, but isn't hiding in the mini coop with the others. Hopefully its not more than another day or two of bully behaviors.
