Oh ive heard great things about them, but envisioned them larger even as bantams... shes tiny!! I might have to consider one in the future 🥰
Yeah, they can get a bit bigger, we picked one of the smaller ones. I have a friend with a buff bantam Brahma and it’s such a cuddle bug. They’re so lovely! You should consider 😍😁

Chickie update: I took the bandage off and he is alot better with backwards leg not half as bad now. Though not putting weight on the foot and it looks a little swollen. I have left the bandage off and hopefully he can adjust to walk properly, if not I'll have to rebandage or something else. He's still active and eating and drinking.

Wow this looks already much better :thumbsup
Hopefully the swelling will go down now the bandage is off.
Fingers crossed further for your beautiful sweetie :fl ❤️

Swelling gone down. Still favours good leg but seems to keep up with the others - I still have them in the little coop instead of letting them range with the main flock till this little chick shows he can jump and run well.

Sia and Cher are out of quarantine and made friends with my other new banties and boy were they happy to find dirt to dust bathe in! 😍 I’ve also started very close introductions with the main flock…they will need constant supervision until they’re a bit older…the roosters are scary to them. However the hens have all been pretty chill about them. Integration is such a slow process! I have a lot of pretty chill chickens, so I think they’ll eventually fit in just fine. ❤️

Aww they are beautiful and what a gorgeous little flock you have there! 🥰
I love my silkies and couldn't have gotten through online learning/lockdown without them!! #yolkoforpresident ... I have Dame Eggna (splash), Gwyneth Poultry (white) and roo, Yolko Oh-No.

They are all so adorable! What fun names too! 😁

Aww I'm so glad the little one is improving so much! ❤️

:celebrate

First and foremost - ABSOLUTELY NO HATING ON SILKIES ALLOWED!!! If you aren’t here to support our fuzzy friends, don’t respond. :)

Silkies get a bad rap for the following:
"Looks like a dust mop"
"Too hard to maintain"
"Poor immune system"
"Dumber than rocks"
"0 predator awareness"
And oh, so much more.

Well my friends - I thought so too, until I actually got silkies for myself. These are some of the most wonderful birds out there.

I’ve found them to be highly heat tolerant, wonderful mothers, having the strongest immune systems in my Bantam flock, GREAT LAYERS (that’s right folks), adorable as all get out, and more. :D

I currently have 9 silkies - and my rooster has been nothing but a gentleman to his ladies. They free range daily and I’ve not had a silkie get killed by a predator yet. My hens average 5 eggs a week - not too bad for a silkie, eh? :)

Most of the time, these silkie haters haven’t even owned the breed, but rather pretend they know everything.

So... let the fun begin! Support our silkies! :woot

Pictures always welcome. :)

Be mindful, and respect others...

Off-topic discussions are allowed, though try to maintain the subject of silkies.

If we needed yet another reason...

Poor Gwyneth was minding her own business laying her egg this morning and I snuck the last remaining egg with a chick from a clutch that hatched on the weekend and through this week under her - I knew it was ready to hatch. I came back from drop off, and there she was with this confused look on her face cleaning up a newly hatched chick and wondering where the time went!!! Poor poppet - she wasn't even broody!!
