My babies have all hatched! 10 out of 13 that went to lockdown. Three were DIS. A lot of malpositioned chicks and chicks coming out the wrong end of the egg. Had to do a lot of assisting. Two did not look like they were going to make it but one is now walking around and doing well. The other one still lying on its side in the incubator. It’s only been about 14 hours since it hatched so we’ll see. All the others look great. Looks like I got five blues and five paint. Not getting those great paint markings like I did with Amai. The blues are gorgeous though!😊
More vaulted skulls this time around which could explain some of the assist needs. None of the parents have vaulted skulls in this batch. Still don’t quite understand how these are passed down.🤷‍♀️
A few photos just now with them sleeping under their brooder plate. I’ll get more later when they’re awake!😊View attachment 3047025View attachment 3047023

Congratulations on the hatch they are absolutely adorable! 😍

I can relate about the malpositions, those hatches are always hard, I'm so sorry about the DIS chicks. 😞 The hatch before my last was like that....too many malpositions and I lost a couple babies and had to help a lot. I'm so glad you were able to get so many still and save some babies. ❤️

The vaults really are strange how they inherit or don't sometimes.

I just hatched a silkie/NN, more to come. The eggs were from an in-law who lives in MT.View attachment 3047123
This is "Boze"

Aww congratulations on the little cutie! I love the yellow down on Boze's head, such a cute color for a chick! 🥰

It could if the black carries a blue gene. Blues can make black, blue, or splash.

Thanks!🥰

Sorry you lost some, too.😞

I am actually happy this is my last hatch for awhile. There have been some tough ones these past few times. I LOVE incubating and hatching chicks, the whole process from start to finish. Watching those little ones hatch never gets old, BUT it can also be emotionally draining when they do not do well or have to be culled. Bittersweet sometimes for sure. ❤️
