First and foremost - ABSOLUTELY NO HATING ON SILKIES ALLOWED!!! If you aren’t here to support our fuzzy friends, don’t respond. :)

Silkies get a bad rap for the following:
"Looks like a dust mop"
"Too hard to maintain"
"Poor immune system"
"Dumber than rocks"
"0 predator awareness"
And oh, so much more.

Well my friends - I thought so too, until I actually got silkies for myself. These are some of the most wonderful birds out there.

I’ve found them to be highly heat tolerant, wonderful mothers, having the strongest immune systems in my Bantam flock, GREAT LAYERS (that’s right folks), adorable as all get out, and more. :D

I currently have 9 silkies - and my rooster has been nothing but a gentleman to his ladies. They free range daily and I’ve not had a silkie get killed by a predator yet. My hens average 5 eggs a week - not too bad for a silkie, eh? :)

Most of the time, these silkie haters haven’t even owned the breed, but rather pretend they know everything.

So... let the fun begin! Support our silkies! :woot

Pictures always welcome. :)

Be mindful, and respect others...

Off-topic discussions are allowed, though try to maintain the subject of silkies.

I want one so bad...

Aww they are so adorable! Looks like they had a nice outing! 🥰

I love the color variety you have there. I'd be so excited to see how the colors are going to turn out! :D
Thank you ❤️
Yes nearly everyone seems to have his/her 'own' colors. The two little greyblue babies still till now look like twins.
The different personalities show themselves more and more, too.
It really is very exciting to see them grow. And they are so sweet.

Congrats on your frizzle. Would love to see photos!❤️
Yes the chicks arrived today! They were about 3 1/2 days on the way so I had a few losses including one of the Cochins. Two though look like they’re doing great and one of them was actually a free extra, so I guess I can’t complain. Just sad.
I’ll post photos tomorrow when they’ve perked up a bit more. The other chicks in my order are going to other folks so just keeping those two.
I have two white capped black polish pullets and they’re just awesome.🥰
They are nine months old and both laying regularly.
Congratulations on your new Polish chick! What color did you get?
I have a Polkie, which is a silkie/Polish cross that is two months old and she’s a sweetheart, this is her photo. Her crest looks something between the Silkie and the Polish crests!😊View attachment 2630865View attachment 2630866
Oh my look at all those babies!! So are those all cochins? Mine are now 4 days old!! I got a white crested black (or possibly blue-but thinking black) polish!!... i love your silkie polish.. oh how pretty!!

Ok here they are... it was hard to see in the store setup.. but i THINK i picked as best as i could and they might very well be females. The cochin has, by my theory, a female chick comb, and the polish has a nice round fuzz poof and wings are as long as the body w a little tail already, hoping that means girl..

Little sweeties!🥰
Only one chick in the photo is a Cochin. Little red one at the bottom.
Others are Olive Eggers, Welsummer and Salmon Faverolles.
If I post comb photos of my two Cochins tomorrow, can you look at them for me? They are supposed to be pullets but then you never know!🤣

Yes!! I swear people say you can't tell, and I'm thinking it's pretty obvious! Ill point out what im looking at too..

What do you think about the polish, think it might be a girl? It was the only white crested, they had pure white polish, but i have my white D'uccle already. But once i got it home, i was thinking, females feather first.. and wow those wings are long!

...Awwww those babies are cute :love
I'm so sorry you did have losses due to shipment 😞:hugs
The bantams look so much smaller - so tiny ❤️
😍Oh wow is this Hikari? She looks so grown up already! Beautiful girl!
How are sweet little Eko & friends doing?

Well there is a 50% chance it is a girl... All kidding aside, I really do not know. Polish are almost as tricky as Silkies to sex. They do have long wings. My two have almost a banana body shape and they can FLY!😊
I'll post photos of the two little cochin in the morning and tag you! Can't wait to see what you think!🥰

Thanks for asking. 🥰That is actually Kinoko, though they do look very similar. 🥰

Hikari is doing great. The Fab Four are in their teenage phase and are a little skittish. I expect they will come around in time. Eko is getting bigger of course as well. Little Amai is still acting like a little mama to the others. I found homes for the other two farm chicks, need to downsize so I can keep the cochins.
Should be getting Eko's and Amai's DNA results tomorrow.
