The ones I have had/have go through phases as they grow. Super friendly as small chicks, more skittish at around 6 weeks of age, then they become more friendly again at around 5-6 months of age. I have some that are quite friendly, though most just ignore me.Okay, so I have a question. I had been wanting Silkies forever, this was the year I finally got 3. They are the most aloof, skittish, and they peck like crazy. Did I just get bad breeding or do they take awhile to warm up to you? I've had them since 3 days old and they're 9 weeks now, and I still can't touch them without being pecked.

Mine were always skittish.. then they started laying and it was like someone replaced my little heathens with lap fluffies!! I had to rehome them, and within minutes at their new home, they were sitting on laps instead of playing in the dirt!! Don't lose hopeOkay, so I have a question. Thank you, I hope so too! Now for the wait to see what sex they end up beingLike LadiesAndJane I have similar experiences with my less friendly silkie chicks often getting much friendlier at 5-6 months (at least in regards to the girls). I think it can really vary how friendly they are as chicks. I hope your little ones will warm up to you when they are older!![]()
Oh i am not good at that! I ended up having to dna test my silkies. Considering it for the polish, but rehoming isn't really an option at the moment or my other chickie won't have a friend.. So.. gotta wait!Thank you, I hope so too! Now for the wait to see what sex they end up being![]()
I was looking into the DNA testing, pretty reasonable prices too! If they were snuggling up to me and being nice I'd have them tested so I wouldn't get attached to a cockerel I can't keep, but as is they're just "lawn candy" and want nothing to do with me unless I have grubs lol. I can only hope that thier aloof behavior means I have hens, or at the very least 1 hen! However this seems to be "a rooster year" for me so I'm not getting my hopes up too high either.Oh i am not good at that! I ended up having to dna test my silkies.
