Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Yes a little strange your potential buyer doesn't know Silkies lay eggs .. but maybe you can inform her and ask for photos of her coop setup for the 2 boys she wants and more details on how she is caring for them? (I always get pics and ask lots of questions before selling any of mine so I know they go to good homes)
...Ohww it would it be so hard to give up such fluffiness especially your beautiful guys! And culling a healthy fluffy even harder! I have culled a few roosters (I only own Silkies) but I had reasons I had to not just because they are boys. I have been able to sell boys to good homes so far and when they are young it's even easier to sell.. and if they are as gorgeous as yours they'd be sold in a day! ..I want your blue one! 😢 I can't imagine having to cull him just for being a boy!

We butchered 9 roosters over the past 2 weeks. Only 1 was a Silkie...and I opted to put him down because he was born with a blocked tear duct that caused him chronic eye infections. I don't have any vets locally who could fix him up so it was just kinder to cull him.

To be fair, I really don't WANT to cull these two remaining boys. I've been trying to find them homes...even offering to GIVE them away to avoid culling them. However, of the 9 Silkies I hatched last February, 5 of them were boys. :/ I have 4 boys left in pen with 3 Silkie females and 2 game hens. That doesn't make for a happy home life. I had to remove the Lavendar paint Roo this morning because he is so bullied by the other Silkie roos that they won't let him eat or drink. The two I'm trying to rehome are perfectly healthy...just too many boys. Time is running out before I'm going to be forced to simply cull them even though I absolutely DON'T want to do that...but I don't know what else to do? I've posted them on BYC, Facebook, and Nextdoor. If no one wants them, then I don't have much choice. :confused:

Yep I understand.
As sad as it is, If you don't have the space or time to care for excess roosters and the alternative is they stay around and mess up flock harmony or get bullied enough that there's bloody fights and not being allowed to eat then it's better you do cull so they don't get neglected. Very hard though especially if they are good friendly boys. I know it will come time I will need to do the same. :hugs

Your boys are beautiful! I hope someone will come along who would like them and can give them a good home. :fl

It is so hard to find extra boys homes sometimes....and so hard to cull if you can't find homes. 😢

My goodness they are getting so big! I love how their coloring is continuing to develop, very pretty! ❤️

I'd guess the red coming in on the wings means more likely a male but I'm not sure it means definitely a male.

These two here were around 6 weeks in the photos and the red was already starting to come in on both the male and female. Deeper red on the wings is usually more of a male trait though. The male here didn't get his red coming in on the wings until a little later.
