I have not ever given her chicks...this would be first attempt.
She is doing very well with the eggs she accumulated...she only gets off once a day when I pick her up and set her out...she eats, bathes and drinks, then returns in less than an hour to sit again.
I would just try a couple to see how she does on a warmer night to sit them in with her and see before giving her all 8 that hatched.
Its a completely different situation giving her eggs to giving her chicks, she may be great at being a broody hatching her own but putting hatched chicks under her is very different - if you are going to try then the chicks shouldn't be more then a day or 2 old for the best success in her accepting them... Have you put up a post in the raising chicks forum? Lots of people have probably done this successfully and have great advice for your best chance at success 😃

These two silkies hatched last night and are already in the brooder. Three others have also hatched, they’re still in the dryer. They have already figured out how to eat and drink. They have been sleeping halfway out of the heat as the house is 85° Inside, great chick temperature, not so much for humans.😊View attachment 2900429

Aww congratulations on the new little ones, adorable as always! 🥰

Well just as I thought, Chino is broody! She has laid a few dozen eggs so doesn't often go broody like my others. I haven't allowed her to hatch before but I'm thinking to give her a go.
Will the most likely colours be just mostly black chicks with her and Biscuit? @LadiesAndJane @LynnaePB
Chino is black with silver necklace 😄

Hmm I'm not exactly sure. I'd expect some silver leakage at least with those two. I'm not very familiar with Columbian genetics mixing with black. I do think it tends to leak through/have more influence than partridge alone. I'd guess probably black chicks with silver leakage with maybe the possibility of recessive white babies since you get those occasionally too. If dad is blue based maybe some blue with silver leakage as well. If your black girl carries partridge maybe some silver partridge or ones like dad. It'll be interesting seeing what you get! 🥰
With the paint, and the blues, what would I get breeding them to a partridge male?

My answer is assuming the blues and paints aren't carrying any recessives. You should get blue and black chicks with the partridge paired with the blues. Paint paired with partridge should give you black and paint chicks. All babies will have the possibility of having some leakage and will carry recessive partridge genetics from dad. 😊

I moved Chino from her nest box to the broody coop nest area and she got up and walked away but still is broody.. thats one of the problems with first time broody hens isn't it! My other older and wiser broody hens just sit on the eggs wherever I put them.
I only had a fake egg for her to sit on and none in the nest box so no loss if she doesn't sit in the right spot just yet.

I moved the entire triple nesting box assembly with Chino inside to the broody coop area. I don't think she realised I have moved her and hasn't yet got out of the nest so I'll see tomorrow if she goes back to that nest spot then I will give her some eggs ☺️
My broody coop is inside the main coop and all have access to it so they still can lay eggs in the nest boxes, when they figure out where I moved them too 😂
