It's definitely an ongoing project when ya got chickens! But I get soooo much enjoyment from just watching em!
My first chicks I got in May were on the garage floor so I wasn't able to work with them as much as I would have liked to....so these 8 have been at table height and they are soooooo sweet once they relax and let you hold em and pet em! Their little eyes close and Joey (little cockrel) luvs belly rubs!
I'm prayin my hubby will let me level our run so me and the chickens don't go stark raving mad from the coop being level and the run not LOL!
Omg i know what you mean.. everyone keeps telling me, just put it on the ground... i walk around with a level inside my house, how will i stare at a crooked run?? 🤣

Ok it will not be 100% official until around lunch time tomorrow but, if she is in fact a hen, I have a new silkie on the way. 2 months ago my farrier mentioned he had a silkie he wanted to rehome and it is close to the same age as mine, just a tad older. He thought it was a hen but also being his first time having silkies he was not 100 percent sure. I wanted it but kindly declined as I thought I had the perfect 2 to 1 ratio. We all know how that turned out. He was back to re shoe the horses literally 2 days before Lil Bit crowed and mentioned the silkie again. Told him again mom would shoot me if I brought home another chicken. Well, Lil Bit crowed and had to be rehomed and I reached out to him. He is going to drop her *pray it really is a her* off at lunch in between clients. I really really need this to be a hen, with only Poppy left Branch has started to harass her and she needs another hen his size and hopefully ready for roo attentions to divert Branch's attractions. I have been searching, even going to the dreaded craigslist and there are just no silkie hens of the proper age available within 3 hours of me. I pray I have pictures to post tomorrow of the new girl. All I know about her is it's a silkie and is brown.

Exciting!! Can't wait for pics!!

I hearing trilling this morning... not sleepy time trilling, someone is finding their loud voice, starting at 4freaking30 a.m. I just sat in front of them and still hear it, but can't tell who is doing it. It happened with a silkie and 2 polish trio. I've never had a male silkie, so i don't know if they do it, but after that while lot of polish, i know they do. I'll investigate further and report back!

So as I'm looking at this little black crossed chick... im kind of thinking it looks a lot more like the polish. But it does have black feet. The tail, wings, vault, SIZE, are more similar to the polish than the silkies.. what are you guys' thoughts? Cochin/silkie, or cochin/polish. The silkies are just sooo tiny in comparison.

The polish and mystery cross are catching some serious air flying around the brooder!

Bummer!! So do you have just your one female silkie? Or other female breeds as well?
I have other breeds. I also have 1 Buff Orp, 1 old game hen, Marans, Cochins and Maran Mixes. Only 6 of them are laying currently out of 18 other hens. They all free range together but a issue that is cropping up is while my main Rooster who is a Marans normally pays no attention to Branch he will go after him if Branch sets his sights on a larger hen. Basil my Marans completely ignores the silkie Poppy. Poppy even though she is 6 months old is just not ready for rooster attentions and well Branch is. That is why I desperately need another hen of laying age so Branch will leave her alone. I almost wonder if she is coming close to laying age though because before I had to rehome the surprise Roo Lil Bit he ignored her as did Lil Bit.

Definitely Silkie going on in there whether it’s Silkie/Polish or Silkie/Cochin remains to be seen. Does look a lot like my smooth feathered Polish/ silkie crosses, I must say.😊
