Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Trying to get a head-count on silkie lovers...

Shoot! Looks exactly like that one (i did a double take thinking it was a pic i posted). I do see the beak on yours is much darker and doesn't appear to have the cochin single comb.

So she did have some silkies and cochins in the yard. Her paint silkies came from a batch of eggs she purchased, but her tolbunts came from her tolbunt pair in her yard. The eggs were all set and hatched together, so thats where the confusion sets in. But the comb looks very cochin. 🤔

Aright, this one is going to need further pics throughout development 😆 she was pretty convinced this little black one came from the same batch as the paint silkies though. It just seems if they are the same generation, it shouldn't have the comb and smooth feathers it has.

Ive had wonderful luck with local chicken/farm facebook groups. I'm not even using craigslist anymore. That's how i found these tolbunts and paints! The coop builder i used was on there too.
 
I'm tempted to DNA sex the 2 silkies and the tolbunt w the largest crest. I'd hate to get attached to the silkie pair and find out i get zero silkies to keep. If i can keep one m/f pair, I would rather it be the tolbunts. And then I'll be on the hunt for a potential replacement silkie friend! Im feeling your pain @RebeccaBoyd !

Well single combs are recessive in silkies, so hard to say excatly where the comb came from in yours. The little one I posted is 3/4 silkie, so has the walnut comb. I did hatch one 2nd gen Polkie though with a single comb, though she has silkied feathers. Genetics are fascinating, as soon as I think I am finally understanding things, I get a chick that does not follow the rules.🤣

Oh.. very interesting. Maybe i shouldn't read too much into the comb then.

All is calm in the brooder, eveyone is napping. I guess given its 2:45pm local time, i need to stop watching chicks and accomplish something 😆

The tail, wings, vault, SIZE, are more similar to the polish than the silkies.. what are you guys' thoughts? Cochin/silkie, or cochin/polish. The silkies are just sooo tiny in comparison.
