Idk if yall are like me or not...so tired of NO rain....always in forecast yet never delivered! My spine implant is hitting a nerve n causing more pain than normal so I need a distraction!
@LadiesAndJane and I are both stumped on Bluey...here's a video of her. She acts nothing like any roo I've ever had. She's 11 weeks old Satin blue mottled.
I know the comb is big but no other signs of roo - needs yalls professional advice!
Boy or girl?!

My guess is a girl, but I could be wrong. My reasons are she doesn't seem to have any streamer feathers and her hair poof looked similar to the other girls. She also doesn't have hackle feathers and her tail wasn't being held upright or her posture as a whole was not rooster like at all. What's probably throwing you off is the comb. It may be a little pink but there aren't really any huge formation of waddles either. I had a hen who I thought was a rooster for the longest time because her comb was as red as the roosters and it was bigger compared to the other hens. Included is a pic of her. With Silkies, you really can never be for sure until the first crow or egg!

Tail feathers would be a good hint, can't see them very well in the video.

Yeah I even asked if her mom had a big comb and was told no!
So guess I'm gonna have to wait and see...this is the only one I've ever had that I've not been able to tell early on and it's driving me carazy! Lol

Do you think pavers around the exterior could work to keep out the diggers? I wonder if they'd be smart enough to go out a few feet. The chickens do seem to love the dirt ground.

And i put my run directly on the ground vs a concrete pad for tax purposes as well. I could move it if needed.

I was just reading about hawks hating crows, and some people using LF black chickens as a decoy. Think it works? I think Esmeralda (my wc black polish) looks like a black vulture!!

Rats are smart enough to dig under any length of skirting. I dont know about other things

Yeah be careful with the structure...I had one very similar, though we didn't use cattle panel on roof, and it collapsed! All 200 sqft of it due to heavy rains and my stupidity trying to level the structure on a slope.

3 years ago I had roof collapse in the other configuration I had the pens in. Too much snow and I hadnt left a way for me to clear in the middle between the roofs because we dont get that much snow normally. Inverted roofs 2 feet off ground. Chickens were fine. Our carport collapsed from snow weight that year as well. 3 feet of snow and then it rained. Lots of people had issues.
So extra support for snow loads in there. Also can use a leaf rake to clear the roofs now.

The dog kennel panels are sturdy at least. So far nothing has phased them. Chaining the pens the way I have also strengthens them.
