Oh my! Another goal accomplished this morning... Turtle Dove (Beilefelder x EE) and Gen Lee (my first fuzzie butted boy 'silkie') have been together since I got him.. She's super docil and I couldn't put her in with the other hens of her ilk, but she settled right in with the General.. I hatched some of her eggs for the first time this year and got 2 beautiful babies. So, I decided when the time came I would put the pullet back in with dad due to the similarity of color and the black puffy crest.. Today when I was feeding the pullets, Puff Meister was walking around whining like crazy and when I went to pet her she squatted right down.. 'Oh, baby,,, you got that funny feeling in your tummy?' So, I picked her up and moved her next door to mom and dad's pad, set her down to watch the fireworks... Of course Gen Lee was first on the move.. She squatted right down for him, and shook her self off like a pro when he was done. No squabbles with mom, dad is minding the store and life is happy. First photo is father and daughter, second is Turtle Dove

General Lee is gorgeous!!!
Glad U might be getting more babies sooooooon lol!

No no no, I'm not hatching anything else this year.. Already got in trouble when I traded off a couple of bantams (phew, one more boy gone) for a couple of turkey poults. :lau
Yeah I told myself I wasn't either but ya see what I did!
AND....where none of the buff babies hatched the past 3 times DH actually said I could get more eggs!!! Timing wise was hoping to raise em with these but these would be 3 weeks old so just gonna wait til we return from our 30th anniversary then I can get MORE!!! Whoohoooooooo! Yeehaww!

flowers or berries? I know that flowers are super healthy but I heard that berries are toxic.

The ripe fruit only is safe for birds. Humans need it cooked depending on type of elderberry. Everything else is toxic so don't give the leaves to chickens.

I had ordered 6 starts this last spring. Nothing more than twigs with a few roots. They are looking very good right now and will be ready to plant out either this fall or next spring. They are going behind the silkie pen so they eventually offer some shade from that side but the berries will be for us.

I am limited by pen space and roos.. I have 11 pens, and trying to dedicate more space for silkies.. Hoping to get the bachelors gone so it can be a silkie pen. As soon as the cochin mix babies get old enough to move in with Gen Lee (that gives him 4 wives) I can move one of the bachelors in with the remaining pullets (all bantam x BCM) or neices (via dad) with similar coloring. The first B x BCM mix pullet is now laying perfect small bronze eggs.. hope her two sisters do the same.
