Hey silkie keepers!
I'm looking for photos of show quality birds for the BYC article I am writing on chicken quality. Does anybody have a picture of a really nice bird they'd like to share? You will get credit, of course!
I will also need a photo of a hatchery (poor quality) silkie for comparison.
Yes, I had silkies at one point (though I don't anymore :() but didn't take good photos that looking back now I can see would have been helpful :D

🧡 Me 3!! I do love orange fluffies 🧡

OH My! I have a little cochin silkie mix hen (Sioux) that just went broody. She's sitting on two eggs, her's and a bantam pullet's egg.. Not happy with the hubby she has, but she hated General Lee, my partridge silkie.. Ohhhhhhhh, but.. I added 4 eggs to the nest which she gladly accepted from my two F1 pullets that are in with Gen Lee.. Count down begins.. Hatch date approx 10 Oct (Columbus Day). First 2nd gen chicks for me.

Here's the 10 week old half brother to the orange one I posted before. This one is full silkie. I'd posted a picture of him at hatch because he was so fluffy. He's stayed a ball of fluff. (The sprinkler just makes a good perch for pictures)

:wee yay! So very egg-citing!!
I have a broody pullet on her 2nd round of broodiness so today I've slipped her on 10 eggs to check fertility and if she hatches some that will be awesome!
Her hatch day will probably be 11 or 12th October so it will be an exciting time for both of us around those dates!!!

Let me correct this!
Silkies get a bad rap for the following:
"Looks like a dust mop"
And???....that's what we love about them!
"Too hard to maintain"
They are just as easy as my other hens
"Poor immune system"
Through bouts of illness in my flock, my silkies have always been the healthiest!
"Dumber than rocks"
Mine are very smart and sneaky
"0 predator awareness"
Well mine live in a run so they'll never have to worry

You guys should join the October hatch along! For hatches that are too early to be on the Halloween one! Broodies are welcome!🥰

These are my three Littles that are now nine days old. What a difference a week makes in trying to get photos! Two days of age they pretty much just stay where you put them, not anymore! It’s like trying to herd cats. I was trying to get them to line up nicely for me, but they weren’t cooperating!
These are my photo shoot attempts, I think I took probably 30 or 40 photos and these are the only ones that came out halfway decent.🤣
We decided to hang onto these Littles for a while and let them grow up a bit before selling them. Curious to see how they’ll turn out, they all look great here at this age anyway. I think they are full sibs to Kai and Kumori. I technically don’t have room for more chickens, but hey these chicks don’t take up that much space yet and my daughter is really enjoying them.🥰
