Not even gonna bother with that.. They are what they are.. When they are old enough they lay or crow and that settles that. I'm old and retired, I got time.:lau
True!

I was in a situation were I didn’t want to wait till they were that old.

One day when I am retired I will do that 😁

Ya know, Charlie.. there's no convincing people to want silkies. You either do or don't. Initially I didn't, until Amanda gave me General Lee.. then Shadow Captain and Poof Poof. Just can't match their personalities, except for Mara my BCM hen. Silkies take to cuddles more than any other breed I've had. All my boys are polite as all get out except when I mess with their kids.
Gen Lee..Butt's up, Doc? His comb and wattles are way too big and not the right type, but he produces lovely gals.View attachment 3573391View attachment 3573392
Gosh he’s a beauty 🥰

Just love him!

I saw a debate raging on a FB group I’m in but didn’t want to engage because, well, it’s FB lol.

The debate was over how to breed for red Pyle in silkies. The photos that a lot of people were showing looked like one of my girls…but I’ve always thought she was some diluted buff mix and that red Pyle was darker and more concentrated to the wing area. In fact one person said they exclusively breed and sell red pyle but all their females looked like my girl (minus the bad haircut lol).

So I’ll ask you lovely silkie experts. Red Pyle or a random buff-mix of some sort.
Oh another beauty 🥰

Whatever the colour she is extremely glamorous ❤️

I was under the impression that red (or red Pyle) isn’t a recognized colour in silkies yet. But I always thought the red Pyle project colour was like this (thank you google):

But the FB breeders had females that mostly looked like this:

So now I’m confused.
Would this satin qualify for red pyle? My understanding is it's red on white.. saddle and wing areas.

That looks close to what I’ve seen through the magic of google (lol). Most of the red/buff colouring concentrated on the wings/shoulders/chest, with white elsewhere (and white undercoat….I’m sure “undercoat” isn’t the right term, but you know what I mean lol).

OMG! We had a rogue chick today!

When I got home from work I found one of the chicks that my broody is raising (about 10 days old now) outside of the run! Which means it got out of the coop (which is raised - probably fell off the ramp) and somehow escaped. Luckily it was hanging out I see the brooder box SCREAMING for mom, so I found it easily.

I tucked it back in with mom and it’s siblings and I’ll be checking (and reinforcing) the perimeter tomorrow.

Little nugget scared the crap out of me! 😂

The hens are pale. The roosters show the red.

*Not my pictures*
These are OEGB. The color is long established in the breed so it shows the proper color

This is the first time I’ve have chicks that are non-partridge so I don’t know what to expect for adult colouring.

What’s everyone’s bets on these 4? The 3 dark looked black at hatching, and the light one (and another exactly like it) looked a bit more grey than they do now. They came from eggs out of a BBS (plus paint) coop.
