I don't even know what is going on with this pullet's color. She's from full partridge breeding. Such an odd mutation.

You can sort of see partridge markings in full sun. She's off even from the bleached out old ladies who are a lighter partridge. That's very red for a partridge. She does have fairly decent conformation, though.

I would love to have that red. I have 1 red roo with 1 buff (with partridge pattern on the wings) and 5 black ladies. I hatched 4 black chicks so far.

Since this is a thread about silkies I would like to learn some more about silkies. I posted a thread yesterday asking about silkies but didn’t get much response. I am thinking about adding some but I have all standard size chicks and wanted to know how well they do in a mixed flock and are there other things I should consider about silkies? Are they heat tolerant? Do they require special care that my other girls don’t? Thanks for any advice!

I prefer to keep them separate from the other breeds. they are low in pecking order. I live in 9a zone (moved from 9b) and silkies are fine with heat. they need a shelter during the day as all the chickens do. no special care needed.

I will be separating mine to their own pen once it's up. Currently they are in a mixed bantam pen that I also use for grow outs. They get to mingle with large fowl tho about every other day for free range. No one bothers them. The polish get bothered more. My breeds are Ameraucana, Spitzhauben, Phoenix, Orpington and English Orpington for large fowl.
