I got hand surgery on the 10th. No incubating for me until after. Got a new hutch to separate the broody into for the first batch for a couple weeks
Good luck on the surgery. I have 12 total from the red partridge pen. 3 are blondies with bits of red in them, two came out with yellow beaks. None of the parents have that, must be a throwback to their great gramma, a bantam buff orpington. that's how I originally got red into my flock.

Big question.. I have 12 chicks from my red project pen and I notice a few have curly feathers on the wings. I don't have any frizzles or sizzles or any curly feathered birds. What could this be? These two will be keepers until fully developed to see how they turn out.

I wouldn't worry about it until they get the teen feather set it and look more adult

I've searched the web over and haven't found teem feathers, I can't think of anything other than juvie feathers.. Why do you twist my mind in knots like this? Such a challenge. :D
Im refering to the 2nd feather set they start to get in around 9 weeks that look like adult feathers. Mine absolutely get in more as they get to adult size.

My brain is fuzzy right now so not making much sense to myself

So my poor hen who got the infection in her outer ear canal is over it. Now there's another issue that I don't know what to do or if I should.

The skin closed over her ear hole.

Not sure if she could hear with how bad that infection got but, it's definitely mostly gone now. Guess I just keep an eye out for infection and cut it open at that point.
