Silkies & vaulted skull questions

OK, could someone please explain differences in the vaulted skulls of silkies. Some have large vaults & others not? I notice when hatching my own eggs, some chicks come out with large bumps on top of their heads while others do not. Does this mean as adults they will have larger top knots as compared to others? Any opinions would be appreciated.

Vaulted skulls don't always mean better top knots.

I think there was a thread on here a little while back that explained that Polish had been bred into Silkies at one point to help increase the size of the top knot, hence the reason some have vaulted skulls and some don't. A vaulted skull is not a requirement for a Silkie, nor does having one necessarily mean that it will have a bigger top knot. Some will have very impressive poofs with a normal head.

I believe that in the UK, a vaulted skull is actually a DQ.
