Silkies Vs Easter Eggers

I like them both, but when my daughter & granddaughter asked for silkies I told them I didn't want a chicken who couldn't see. I figured with all the fluff around their faces it would be hard form them to see where they're going, etc. Plus, I love the colors. One of my EE is all white and another is beautiful like flames of fire (she's called Fireball).

I have some beauties, too. I also have a white one with just a little black. She is a sexy girl. EE's are very colorful and so easy to individually identify. I have some RR,s and some Barred Rocks and they are great but much harder to tell one from the other and for the most part I cannot. The Rhode Island Reds are the ones that are the friendliest of the flock, then the Rocks. The EE's are not unfriendly but as they get older mine seem to want to be handled less.

EE for sure. Though I love silkies and want some so bad, Easter Eggers are often Ameraucana mixes. And everyone knows Ameraucana is the best ever chicken breed.

Well I have to go with silkies, as I have 4. Though EEs are awesome and ameracaunas as well. I only have one of those.
What about a silkie/EE or ameraucana cross? Best of both worlds! Colored eggs in a cute package.
I find that my silkies keep themselves surprisingly clean. No issues with poop stuck to their floofy butts or feathered legs at all.

Tripped me out for a moment. You changed my wording! Switched out "silkie"for "cochin" I do not have any cochins.

Silkies are on my top 10 wanted breeds in the future. But my vote goes for the Easter Eggers sadly.

You know, I thought I wouldn't be able to tell the barred rocks from each other, but I can with just ONE. In the beginning we could tell her apart because she had an accident and ended up with one missing "toe". But now, she's the only one with orange legs.

SILKIES!!!
I had an EE pair, the rooster was a nightmare and had to be rehomed. The hen is pretty but not very friendly. Egg color makes no difference to me. And personally I’m not into the lean, smooth-feathered look.

I love fluffy round little chickens... silkies are the best! My silkie rooster has the best personality, and my girls and so cute and friendly. They are the best mothers and are pretty good layers when they aren’t broody.


Also, fun fact: 4 of my silkies will be turning 2 years old tomorrow! The first silkies I ever got.

You know, I thought I wouldn't be able to tell the barred rocks from each other, but I can with just ONE. In the beginning we could tell her apart because she had an accident and ended up with one missing "toe". But now, she's the only one with orange legs.

I can tell one of mine right now because she is much smaller than the other 3 I have. They are only about 14 weeks old. She also likes to be picked up a good bit. I need to look and see if there is any differences in their legs.
