Silkies with Crooked Beaks....questions?

I was thinking about using dumor for the chicks and nutrena for the adults since it has animal protein in it. Do you think they could get cross beak at 6 months? I don't like purina because it has the marigold extract that turns the feathers yellow. If it's not genetic, what kind of viatamin problem is it? Can I just give them poly vi sol every week?

With mash it is the small size of the food particles, not vitamins it has or is lacking. The mash gets impacted in the beak and create pressure that causes the beak to twist.

My aunt had a silkie with a crooked beak, but she was not sickly. she had full feathers but we didn't risk her hatching eggs, she kinda became the family pet she was a great mom though and we asked a breeder and he said that its genetic they get it from their parents. you have to take care of them a lot though

I just dont understand this KILL FIRST attitude. If the chick is able to eat and drink enough to sustain itself, then why would you kill it? I can understand culling if a bird is suffering or something. But seriously...your first thought should not be to kill. Find it a home with someone else if it inconveniences you to take care of it. I thought this forum was for Chicken "lovers" !!!
