Hey I'm just curious so I have a brown silkie who had buldges or hard rock looking stuff come to find out it is lice eggs and mites. We were able to cut most of them off, but don't know how long she had been like that she is is very wobbly and not much meat to her. We have dust bathed her and the rest of the chickens I have put the two silkies together in the garage and have giving eloctrolelec and probiotics in her water she is eating and drinking but just doesn't have strength and is asking like she is drunk idk if there is medicine I can give to her help her. I don't know what else to do or if it's just going to take time or if you guys can help me if you know of it could be something else? A disease maybe could take all the help I can get just wanna save her.

I have attached pictures of her and had her on the table and she would just sometimes fall to one side but in the tub she will walk but shake. I also have attached stuff I bought today . Any feedback is appreciated .

Hi, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

Sorry to hear your Silkie might be unwell. :(

What do you feed on a regular basis including treats? How many other birds? When was the last time she laid? Has she been broody? How long have you had her? Any recent addition or changes? Was she vaccinated for anything? How old is she? Was she trying to stay with the other birds and forage or were they picking on her? Was she staying om a nest box or what is her general behavior aside from you have already described? Is she separated in sight of the rest of the flock with the friend you gave her?

A permethrin based spray is my personal preference to combat lice and mites... which is a typical PNW winter issue... It's safe, EFFECTIVE, affordable ($8 this bottle lasted my 82+ birds for 2 years), easy to use, labeled for use in chickens, no egg withdrawal required.

Simply part feathers down to the skin and give a SMALL spritz... right below the vent, under each wing pit, and to the nape of the neck at the base of the head. Repeat in 7-10 days according to directions to break the life cycle and get any eggs that still hatch. Also replace bedding and spray nesting boxes and roost as some mites only come out to feed but don't live on the bird.

I only give electrolytes if there has been diarrhea or they off feed or dehydrated. Otherwise for added nutrients, poultry Nutri Drench or (rooster booster brand) Poultry Cell are far superior products.

How long have you had this bird? Have you ever wormed or had a fecal float done to check species load count? If not, a fecal float can be a valuable tool, It cost about $28 at my vet... but one combined sample gives me an overall flock view and makes sure I don't treat what I don't have and if I do need to treat that I use the correct medication for the species as not all meds treat all parasites.

What do her dropping look like now? Are you able to post a video of her drunkenness using youtube or vimeo and link here?

Hope she recovers quickly! :fl
