Hi

I am new here
I had chickens before(wyandottes). Now I want a smaller chicken. So I think I'll get info on silkies
Do the males crow too much? I cant have too much of it!
And any tips/hints, or anything/info about the silkies would be appreciated!

Heya!

Well I had 2. And I am getting more. Nice birds, generally quiet. They seem shy, but love to play(at least mine did) I like them a lot!

Silkie roosters crow just about as much as any other chicken but most chickens crow less then the fighting cocks I have noticed. Mine crow for a bit early morning, then late evening, and sometimes in the middle of the night if the outside light goes on or in the case of a full moon which makes it bright out. It depends how much you deem to be too much.

Otherwise they are calm, easily handled, non offensive little guys (and girls)

Hope this helps.

My silkie cockerel is 15 weeks tomorrow, and I haven't heard him crow yet. I'm wishing he'd hurry up, cuz I bet it will be a great little crow! I have 4 silkies currently, with a broody sitting on 9 more silkie eggs. I think I'm addicted...

Everyone needs silkies, so hurry up and get some!

Tell that story about volume to my roos!

Silkies crow as often as any other breed, and as loud as any other breed their size. Larger breeds tend to be louder and low in pitch, smaller breeds shrill. Silkies are about in the middle both in volume and pitch.

My silkie roos love to crow around their girlfriends! Just remember that they cannot fly so you have to make sure that they are protected from predators. They are such a sweet natured bird! Since they are a crested bird, make sure that you check monthly to make sure they do no have mites or parasites. They will make you a great friend!
