I thought silkies were known for being broody? Mine have not started being broody it might be to early still. I also have them free ranging. Should I lock them up?

My Silkies didn't get broody until they were about 10 months old. One day, it just happened. Our most mature hen just hunkered down, and within a few days I had 4 of my girls in the nesting box full time. They're like teenage girls I guess

as soon as one "cool" girl gets something the others follow suit!
I also gave them oyster shells- seemed to motivate a little bit. Make sure they get lots of light and outdoor time if it's not too cold out. It will happen- just give it time.

They are over a year old.

And there are getting all the natural light. 730am - 730pm right now.
