Silly broodies

Well, my little prizefighter didn't make it

Must have been worse than I thought.

Still, I have four healthy babies (six counting the previous hatch) and potentially four more on the way.

Thanks, Cyn. Never gets any easier to lose a little one, does it? Oh well, you're right, I'll focus on the positive. And there's plenty of that too

So glad I'm not the only one. My Black Star has only been laying a couple of weeks (still tiny pullet eggs), no roo, short days and she's major broody. I keep taking her off the nest to eat and drink, but she just goes right back. Don't really want to try raising chicks in the snow, which might come any time, so sure hope she tries again in spring.

This is my first chicken experience (and my first time on a chat board), lots of fun but what a learning experience.

Welcome to BYC, Ol'Biddy! Glad you could join us.

Yes, no matter how long you've had chickens, there's always something more to learn.

Okay, number three has hatched out her little brood, only two in this hatch.

Here's Mama, being supervised closely by Papa

Those are so beautiful, Janet! I only have one Buff Brahma girl and she's molting terribly-has NO tailfeathers, no legfeathers and none on her bum, either. Poor Caroline! Mine is standard, though. BTW, Glenda is doing well with her babies now. She's a great mom!

My 8 month old BO is broody for the first time.

I couldn't resist, I put 6 eggs under her today. They too will have to wear long underwear for the winter.

She is sooo great, she just sits there. But she loves for me to still pet her. She is def. my favorite.

Thanks Cyn!

These are the parents of the chicks from all three recent hatches. I plan to keep the females and put them in the pen with my other BBBs (there are two unrelated males in that pen).

Glad to hear Glenda hatched her brood. How many did she end up with, btw?
