First field trip to the outside today for my 4 EE chicks. Everything seemed to go well. Scratching around searching through the grass. Then one was laying down, rolling to her side and curling her feet up. Everytime I would decide she was mortally wounded, she would get up and walk a bit before laying down again. Brought everyone back inside to the freshly cleaned brooder. Now she is acting just fine, walking around, eating, and drinking. Apparently the silly thing does not care for the feeling of grass on her feet.

It sounds like she was attempting a dust bath, albeit in the wrong medium. Chickens really do get into their baths. Mine will lay there in nearly the same torpor as they do at bedtime.

Chickens and chicks too love sunbathing and dust bathing!
The first time I put my little ones outside on a sunny day, they immediately layed down on their side and stuck out one leg and one wing lol.
Sometimes they just lay down without the weird yoga poses but they love the sun and the dirt!
Both are very good for them so be sure not to discourage it.
I even filled a small tote with dirt and put it in the brooder for them.
Happy babies! :love:ya
